ACTIVATING COMMUNITIES THROUGH
INITIATIVE, VISION, & EMPOWERMENT
WHAT IS ACTIVE?
ACTIVE stands for Activating Communities Through Initiative, Vision and Empowerment. It is a two quarter 4-unit course through the UCI Cross Cultural Center in which students are trained to facilitate workshops centered on diversity, social justice, and critical consciousness.

Winter Quarter is dedicated to learning social justice theory, history, and other related concepts on top of learning how to facilitate the offered workshops. In Spring Quarter, requests for workshops can be submitted for the ACTIVE students to facilitate.
THE CROSS CULTURAL CENTER
STUDENT ACTIVISM
Access to academic knowledge on activism, social justice, and systems of oppression can be difficult. With this website, the 2019 ACTIVE cohort hopes to create a resource not only for creating better access to ACTIVE workshops and information, but also for students looking to become more active and educated about social justice issues.
Established as a space for social-cultural support for students of color in 1974, the Cross Cultural Center was the first of its kind in the entire UC System. The Cross Cultural Center offers a wide variety of resources, programs, and involvement opportunities and is home to many of the student cultural organizations on campus.
ACTIVE is one of the several programs facilitated through the Cross Cultural Center. For more information, visit the Cross Cultural Center website.
